New ISM Code Introduction Course
Videotel Academy in Association with Regs4ships have created this unique blended learning course that aims to provide an effective training module based course covering all the key aspects of shipping safety management as outlined in the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
Who the course is designed for
- Refresher for all shore-based persons in maritime organisations
- Introduction for new and junior staff in shore based maritime organisations
The ISM Code affects every ship and maritime organisation and it is a fundamentally important standard approach to managing shipping safety.
Candidates can take part in on-line real time tutorials through virtual classroom technology and benefit from the experience of taking part in discussions with fellow candidates regardless of where they are in the world. You will enrol with other candidates and follow a structured learning programme. There will also be opportunities for on-line, one to one discussions with your tutor.
One of the first tutors for this course will be Regs4ships Director Captain Mick Caulkin. Mick is an expert in marine compliance and safety management systems, built on 40 years of experience and knowledge gained from serving as a ships officer and captain, a shore based manager, a regulator and ship inspector and over the past ten years significant involvement in compliance consultancy, auditing, risk management and training. Mick is an author and contributor to several maritime publications and an ISM Expert Witness in large legal cases.

ECDIS Implementation training course
We have developed an ECDIS Implementation course, examining the data, equipment and training issues and particularly the hidden traps. The course has been co-developed and co-presented with Joe Collins, an ECDIS expert.
We look at six case studies to date, all of which reveal ECDIS-related issues of significant concern from legal and insurance liabilities.

Courses delivered in conjunction with Warsash Maritime Academy
We have a long-standing contract with Warsash Maritime Academy to deliver a range of specialist courses – including the two-day internal auditor, five-day lead auditor, ship security officer and company security officer. These courses are also delivered through the Maine Maritime Academy in the USA.
The new three-day DPA course was added to the training schedule at Warsash in 2010 and has been very successful. This course has also been run overseas on demand.
It is targeted at newly promoted DPAs and current DPA role holders who are required to update their training through continued professional development. Other shore based professionals requiring knowledge of the responsibilities, problems and potential liabilities involved with the DPA role would also benefit from taking this course.

ISM and HSEQ excellence programs
We have assisted several major operators with various consultancy projects combined with training, enabling ISM Excellence and HSEQ Excellence campaigns to be developed and implemented. In some cases this has involved partial re-writes of safety management system documentation and then ‘hearts and minds’ training.
We have delivered several overseas seminars covering subjects such as the port state control new inspection regime and the new requirements for designated persons.
Internal audit training courses for ships and ship operators
We regard internal auditing as an essential element of ISM compliance, which is increasingly being found as a failing in accident reports. With our experience of undertaking hundreds of sensible, seaman-like internal audits, we can design and deliver anything from half-day refresher training courses to formal structured courses of several days duration.

Ports and harbour authorities
Led by Captain Mark Capon, our ports business provides frequent and diverse training to operational port staff throughout the UK.

For the safety for all persons on board and for the owner’s peace of mind, it is vital for a yacht to continually evolve its safety culture. Regs4yachts has developed training packages which can be rapidly and efficiently adopted by any yacht. Our expert instructors will provide training specifically tailored to the needs of the yacht and its crew.
Our training is focused on the following three areas:
- Fire safety
- Yacht safety;
- Procedural compliance.
These three two-day courses can be amalgamated into a single five-day training session.
Law and procedures training
Regs4ships Limited works in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry to provide law and procedures (LAP) training.
STCW ’95 I/10.2 requires the four senior officers on-board to have knowledge of the law and procedures of the flag under which they sail. Regs4ships has created a CD-based training program, taking around one hour to complete, for a seafarer to read questions and fill in an answer book.
The answer book is marked by examiners at Regs4ships Limited and a certificate issued. The certificate is evidence that the seafarer has the required standard of knowledge and is accepted by flag and port state control inspectors.
